Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has added steel barricades at three more Metro stations to improve passenger safety and manage crowds. Earlier, barricades were installed at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Interchange Station (Majestic) and R V Road Metro Station. Now, the safety railings have also been set up at Indiranagar, K R Pura, and

Benniganahalli stations. Officials said the MG Road station will also get barricades soon. With this, six Metro stations in the city will have platform railings to help regulate queues and prevent passengers from accidentally falling onto the tracks.
Busiest Metro Station in Bengaluru
Majestic Station is the busiest in the network, with more than 2.5 lakh passengers using its four platforms on the Purple and Green lines every day. R V Road Station handles over 55,000 commuters daily. Benniganahalli sees around 48,609 passengers, Indiranagar about 42,605, while K R Pura and M G Road each manage nearly 35,000 passengers every day.
Why Barricades Have Been Installed?
According to BMRCL Chief PRO B L Yeshwanth Chavan, the barricades have been installed mainly for safety and to maintain proper queues. He added that more stations may get similar barriers depending on the need. This decision comes after several incidents in which people tried to jump onto the tracks, leading to serious injuries and even deaths in some cases.
Commuters' Demand
Many commuters, however, have been asking for platform screen doors (PSDs), which open only when a train arrives and are considered a safer option. BMRCL has said PSDs were not included in the original plan for the current lines due to high costs and technical challenges, but may be considered in future phases. Bengaluru's Metro network currently covers 96 km with 83 working stations.
