Kerala's Educational Institutions to Remain Closed

In Alappuzha, a holiday has been declared for all educational institutions in Kuttanad taluk. The order was issued by District Collector and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Chairman Shaji V Nair, IAS. The holiday applies to schools, professional colleges, anganwadis and tuition centres in the entire Kuttanad region.

The holiday order also applies to educational institutions in Alappuzha and Kottayam districts that are currently being used as relief camps. These institutions are sheltering people displaced from their homes by flooding and waterlogging. They will remain closed as long as they continue to function as active relief centres.

Several Areas in Kerala are Facing Waterlogging Issues

The decision was taken after the Kuttanad Tehsildar reported that several areas were still facing waterlogging. Relief and rescue activities are also continuing in the region's low-lying areas. Considering the difficult conditions and the safety of students and staff, the administration decided to close educational institutions for the day.
However, the district administrations have clarified that previously scheduled university and board examinations will not be affected by the holiday. Students who have examinations on Tuesday are expected to attend them according to the existing schedule.

Advisory for Kerala Residents

Authorities said the decision has been taken mainly to ensure the safety of students, teachers and other staff members while relief operations continue in flood-affected areas. Residents are advised to follow official instructions and monitor updates from the district administration.
