Buddha Air, a private airline from Nepal, is planning to start flights from Kathmandu to Pakyong. This new route will make it easier for people to travel between Nepal and Sikkim.

Visit to Pakyong Airport
A team from Buddha Air, including operational head Jeevan Basnet, administrative head Uday Krishna Shrestha, and network head Om Pradhananga, visited Pakyong Airport today. They were there to see if it is possible to start the new flights. The team got a presentation from the Pakyong Air Traffic Control and took a tour of the airport with director Sanjeev Kumar Singh.
Seeking Permission
Buddha Air is now asking for permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to operate at Pakyong Airport. They are very interested in starting flights on this new route.
Flight Details
If all goes well, Buddha Air plans to have two daily flights:
- A direct flight from Kathmandu to Pakyong
- A flight from Kathmandu to Pakyong with a stop in Guwahati
The direct flight from Kathmandu to Pakyong is expected to take about one hour. The flight from Pakyong to Guwahati will take about 35 minutes.
Estimated Fares and Timing
The estimated fare for the Kathmandu to Pakyong route is between Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 7,000. However, there is a request to lower the fare to between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 6,000 to make it more affordable for passengers.
The flights are expected to be scheduled between 12:00 noon and 1:30 pm. Buddha Air will use ATR 500 aircraft for these flights, which can carry 85-90 passengers.
Impact on Connectivity
This new flight route is expected to greatly improve connectivity between Nepal and Sikkim. It will make it easier and faster for people to travel between these two places.
Buddha Air's Confidence
Buddha Air is confident that there will be enough passengers for these flights. The airline already operates flights from Kathmandu to Varanasi and is also looking to start a new route from Janakpur to Ayodhya.
