The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially changed the name of Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 Metro Station. The station will now be known as "Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar." DMRC has confirmed the decision and said the new name will soon appear on metro signboards, route maps, announcements, and digital platforms.

Main Reason Behind the Change
The main reason for this change is to reduce confusion among passengers by giving the station a more recognizable name to ease travel. In the Mayur Vihar area, there are several metro stations with similar names, such as Mayur Vihar Pocket-1, Phase-1, and Phase-2. Because of these similar names, many commuters, especially first-time users and visitors, often get confused and find it difficult to identify the correct station. The proposal to rename the station was reportedly raised by several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and local representatives. They suggested linking the station's name to the nearby Shri Ram Mandir, saying this would give the station a clear identity and highlight the area's cultural importance. According to sources, their request was later considered and approved.
Name Change Request Received Approval
The renaming received formal approval from the State Names Authority (SNA). The SNA is a 29-member committee under the Delhi government, chaired by the Chief Minister, and responsible for approving the naming and renaming of public places such as roads, parks, colonies, and other locations in Delhi, except for areas that fall under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
DMRC has said that the new station name will be introduced gradually. Updates will be made step by step on metro maps, station boards, public announcement systems, and mobile apps. This phased approach is meant to ensure that commuters adjust smoothly and face minimal inconvenience during the transition.
