Maharashtra’s Seaplane service to Connect Mumbai, Pune with Top Attractions in 2025

To make travel easier and promote tourism across Maharashtra, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has planned to bring back seaplane and small aircraft services. This new plan will connect big cities like Mumbai and Pune to beautiful and lesser-known places like Ganpatipule in Ratnagiri, Koyna Dam in Satara, Ujani Dam in Solapur, and Mandwa in Alibaug. These flights will help save travel time and offer a scenic flying experience.

A Plan That Once Failed

MTDC had tried a similar service in 2014 between Mumbai and Pavana Dam near Lonavala. But it was stopped early due to problems with getting legal approvals and delays caused by the Sahara Group. Another plan to connect Juhu and Girgaum Chowpatty also failed because they didn't get jetty permissions.

Better Planning This Time

This time, MTDC is being more careful. A tourism official told Money Control that they are focusing on places that already have the needed facilities like certified waterbodies and helipads. They are also working with aviation authorities to avoid problems faced earlier. The new service is expected to begin in 2025.

Key Features of the 2025 Plan

The new service will use small aircraft that can carry 9 to 19 passengers. These are great for small groups or families looking for a special flying experience. These planes can land on both land and water, which will help them reach more places easily.

MTDC is also inviting private aviation companies to join the project. They want firms with experience in this kind of service to help make it successful. This teamwork will improve service quality and make the travel experience better.

More Than Just Travel

The project is not only about flying people from one place to another. It's also about helping local businesses grow by bringing more tourists. Special air tours are also planned. These tours will show off Maharashtra's beautiful views, historical buildings, and rich culture from the sky.

The return of seaplane and small aircraft services in Maharashtra is a big step toward better tourism. With proper planning and the help of experienced partners, the service hopes to make traveling more fun and faster. Visitors will get a new way to see Maharashtra's mountains, beaches, and famous landmarks from above, making every trip unforgettable.
