South Central Railway (SCR) has announced that it will run 16 additional special trains during the Sankranti festival season to handle the expected rise in passenger numbers. These special trains are meant to help travellers going to Telangana and north coastal Andhra Pradesh, where travel demand is usually very high

during the festival. The trains will connect Secunderabad, Vikarabad, and Srikakulam Road on selected dates in January 2026.
Special Services on Srikakulam Road-Secunderabad Routes
The special services will operate on the Secunderabad-Srikakulam Road and Srikakulam Road-Secunderabad routes with train numbers 07288, 07289, 07290, 07291, 07292, and 07293. Most of these trains will run overnight. They will leave their starting stations at night from late December 2025 and reach their destinations the next day. This timing has been planned to cover the busiest Sankranti travel days in early and mid-January 2026.
Special Services on Vikarabad and Srikakulam Road
Moreover, SCR will run special trains between Vikarabad and Srikakulam Road, numbered 07294 and 07295. These services are mainly aimed at passengers travelling from the interior parts of Telangana as well as from Andhra Pradesh during the festive period.
As per the timetable, Train No. 07288 from Secunderabad will depart at 7:00 pm and reach Srikakulam Road at 12:30 pm the next day. The return train, No. 07289, will leave Srikakulam Road at 3:30 pm and arrive in Secunderabad at 8:10 am the following morning. Other special trains on this route will follow similar overnight schedules, providing more sleeping berths for long-distance passengers.
Stoppages of Special Trains
These special trains will stop at important stations, including Charlapalli, Kazipet, Warangal, Khammam, Eluru, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam area stations, Vizianagaram, and Chipurupalli. SCR has advised passengers to use these special trains to avoid overcrowding on regular services.
