As Guruvayur, it is customary to visit the Shri Krishna Temple as soon as the Mandala Kalam starts.After the 41 days of the pilgrimage season, the Lord Ayyappa Temple is closed for three days before being reopened for darshan on the fourth day. There is no caste or creed discrimination in the Sabarimala Temple, therefore people of any religion are welcome. However, during the Mandala Kalam period, female devotees between the ages of 10 and 50 are not allowed to enter the Sabarimala Temple. The celebrations of Makaravilakku mark the end of the popular Sabarimala Temples yearly pilgrimage season, which lasts from mid-November to mid-January.
