Gorakhgiri Hill in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, is going to be developed as a major religious tourist spot under the Central government's Swadesh Darshan Scheme 2.0. Known as the meditation place of Guru Gorakhnath, this hill will now get a new look with better facilities for visitors. A total budget of Rs 25 crore has been set aside for this project.

Improved Facilities for Tourists
The government plans to make Gorakhgiri Hill more attractive and comfortable for tourists. Visitors will soon see better lighting along the pathways, more benches to sit and relax, proper signage for easy directions, a decorative entrance gate, and a mural wall to show the heritage of the area. A peaceful park will also be developed for visitors.
One of the main attractions of Gorakhgiri Hill is the ancient Sun Temple. Near this temple, a Sun Interpretation Center will be built. This center will help visitors learn about the astronomical and cultural importance of the temple and the region.
The site also has other beautiful features like natural granite rocks, caves, waterfalls, and the Keerat Sagar Lake, which will be highlighted as part of the development.
Focus on Employment and Local Economy
Tourism and Culture Minister Jayveer Singh said that the development will not only increase the number of tourists but also help in creating jobs for local people. As more visitors come to Gorakhgiri Hill, there will be more chances for locals to earn through small businesses, shops, and services.
Along with Gorakhgiri Hill, other places in the Gorakhpur district will also get a boost under this scheme. A total of ten new tourism projects worth Rs 87.29 crore are planned for the year 2024-25. These include important sites like Gorakhtal, the birthplace of Saint Kabir, and the birthplace of Paramahansa Yogananda, as well as various temples and other religious spots.
A Part of Challenge Based Destination Development
This development plan comes under the 'Challenge Based Destination Development' approach within the Swadesh Darshan Scheme 2.0. The goal is to develop and protect cultural and historical places across India by improving infrastructure and tourist services. This will help in attracting more people from India and abroad to experience the country's rich heritage.
With the development of Gorakhgiri Hill, Mahoba is set to become a popular religious travel destination in Uttar Pradesh. The plan will improve tourist facilities, support the local economy, and help preserve the spiritual and cultural importance of the site. The project aims to benefit both visitors and the local community in the long run.
