Bengaluru's Namma Metro Pink Line is set to undergo a mandatory safety inspection from October 6 to 8, bringing the 7.5-km elevated section closer to opening for passenger services. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) is expected to inspect the stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, also known as Reach 6.

Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line to Undergo Safety Inspection

The inspection will be conducted by V Venkatasubramanian, Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety, Southern Circle. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had submitted an application for the inspection on September 18. The Railway Board approved the new BEML trainsets proposed for the elevated section on September 23, clearing another important requirement before the safety assessment.

The CMRS team will examine the safety and structural condition of the elevated viaduct, railway tracks, signalling systems, and stations. The inspection will also cover the Operations Control Centre (OCC) after speed trials to check whether the infrastructure is ready for passenger operations. The section can open for commercial services only after receiving the required safety clearance and authorisation.

The 7.5-km elevated stretch has six stations: Kalena Agrahara (Gottigere), Hulimavu, IIM-Bangalore, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital and Swagath Road Cross (Tavarekere).

Bengaluru Metro currently has an operational network of 96 km. Once the elevated Pink Line section becomes operational, the network is expected to cross the 100-km mark. The new corridor is also expected to improve connectivity in South Bengaluru and ease traffic congestion along Bannerghatta Road and nearby areas.

The opening of the elevated stretch has faced several delays, with previous deadlines in September 2025, March, May, August, and September 2026 being missed. The underground Dairy Circle-Nagawara section is targeted for completion by March 2027.
The elevated section's opening date will depend on the outcome of the safety inspection and the necessary approvals.
