Bangalore Water Supply Cut in Two Phases
The BWSSB (Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board) has announced a planned shutdown in two phases. The Cauvery Stage V pumping stations will be turned off for 60 hours, from 1:00 am on September 15 to 1:00 pm on September 17. Additionally, Stages I to IV (Phase 1 and 2) will have a 24-hour shutdown from 6:00 am on September 16 to 6:00 am on September 17. This will affect several areas in Bengaluru, those that rely heavily on Cauvery water.
The BWSSB Chairman, Dr. V Ram Prasath Manohar, stated that the shutdown is essential for repairs that will improve water supply reliability and prevent unexpected failures in the future. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar shared plans to extend water access to nearby areas. The government is aiming to bring Cauvery water to 250 villages and explore other sources, the Shimsha and Arkavathi rivers, to meet growing water needs.
