Record Crowds in Ayodhya: Hotels Fully Booked as Ram Bhakts Gather for New Year Celebrations

Ayodhya, the historic temple town in Uttar Pradesh, is witnessing a massive influx of devotees as the New Year approaches. The first New Year celebration following the consecration of the grand Ram Temple has drawn thousands of Ram Bhakts, filling hotels in Ayodhya and nearby Faizabad to capacity until mid-January.

High Demand for Accommodations

Local hotels are experiencing unprecedented demand. Ankit Mishra, a hotel owner in Ayodhya, shared that the community is fully prepared to welcome the devotees. The high booking rates reflect the enthusiasm surrounding the New Year celebrations at the Ram Temple.

Extended Darshan Hours and Security Measures

To manage the overwhelming crowd, the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has extended the temple's darshan hours. Ayodhya's Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajkaran Nayyar, has assured visitors of heightened security at the Ram Temple and other religious sites. The measures aim to ensure smooth and safe access for the devotees flocking to the city.

Ayodhya's Growing Popularity

The Ram Temple has turned Ayodhya into a bustling religious tourism hub. While traditional Hindu New Year celebrations are typically observed in March-April (Chaitra), the English New Year is now also drawing large numbers of devotees. According to Ramakant Tiwari, a local priest, this growing trend signifies the temple's increasing influence on visitors from across the country.

Boost to Uttar Pradesh Tourism

The impact of the Ram Temple extends beyond Ayodhya, driving a surge in tourism across Uttar Pradesh. Data from the state tourism department reveals that over 32.98 crore tourists visited Uttar Pradesh in the first half of 2024. January alone saw an impressive seven crore visitors, setting a new record. The temple has played a significant role in boosting tourism alongside other major religious sites like Varanasi.

The temple's upcoming consecration ceremony, which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hundreds of devotees, has heightened its spiritual and cultural significance. This event solidifies Ayodhya's status as a key pillar of Uttar Pradesh's tourism sector. The state government's meticulous planning for crowd management and security highlights the importance of this historic occasion.

Ayodhya's transformation into a major spiritual destination underlines its deep cultural and religious importance. The extended darshan hours, robust security, and the local community's efforts to accommodate devotees make it a remarkable experience for visitors. As Ayodhya welcomes pilgrims from around the globe, it showcases the enduring appeal of India's rich religious heritage.
