Railway Minister Launches New Gwalior-Bengaluru Weekly Express

On Thursday, a new weekly express train was launched for the people of Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the service from Gwalior to Bengaluru via video conferencing from New Delhi. The train will leave Gwalior at 3 pm every Friday and arrive in Bengaluru by 7.35 am on Sunday. The return journey will start from Bengaluru at 3.50 pm every Sunday, reaching Gwalior by 10.25 am on Tuesday.

The newly introduced train will comprise 22 coaches, providing ample space for passengers. During a virtual address to the people of Madhya Pradesh, Vaishnaw highlighted the significant increase in the state's railway budget over the past decade, from around Rs 600 crore to Rs 14,745 crore.

Rail Electrification and Infrastructure

Madhya Pradesh has achieved full rail electrification, according to Vaishnaw. Over the last 11 years, the state has added 2,651 km of new rail tracks, surpassing Denmark's entire rail network length. This development marks a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity within the region.

Efforts are underway to introduce a new passenger train service between Gwalior and Agra as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements. Additionally, Vaishnaw mentioned that 80 railway stations in Madhya Pradesh are undergoing redevelopment, with special architectural attention given to Gwalior station.

Upcoming Rail Projects in Madhya Pradesh

Several key rail projects have been sanctioned for Madhya Pradesh. These include the Manmad-Indore new rail line costing Rs 18,036 crore and the Bhusaval-Khandwa third and fourth lines at Rs 3,514 crore. Other projects include the Manikpur-Prayagraj third line at Rs 1,640 crore and Ratlam-Nagda third and fourth lines at Rs 1,018 crore.

In just one year, rail projects worth Rs 24,000 crore have been approved for Madhya Pradesh. Vaishnaw stated that these developments would transform the state's railway landscape significantly.

Redevelopment Plans for Ujjain Station

Vaishnaw also discussed preparations for Simhastha Kumbh and revealed that Ujjain station's redevelopment master plan is ready. Work will commence post-event to ensure passengers face no inconvenience during their travels. This new train service originating from Gwalior is expected to ease travel for students, IT professionals, and traders heading towards Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
