The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) is introducing a new QR ticketing service on the Lucknow Metro which will begin on Monday and allow commuters to book metro tickets digitally using their mobile phones, making travel easier & convenient.

Purchase of QR Tickets
With this new system, passengers can purchase QR tickets through the official UPMRC mobile application. Tickets can also be booked at ticket vending machines (TVMs) and at ticket counters located inside metro stations. Once booked through the mobile app, the ticket will be available in digital QR format on the passenger's smartphone. For those who prefer a physical ticket, paper QR tickets can still be obtained from ticket counters and vending machines at stations.
How to Purchase QR Tickets
Passengers using QR tickets will be required to scan them at the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates while entering and exiting the metro stations. Only AFC gates marked with yellow stickers will support QR scanning. Scanning the QR ticket will be compulsory both at the start and end of the journey to ensure proper fare collection.
Installation of QR-enabled Ticket Vending Machine
To support this new system, Lucknow Metro is installing QR-enabled ticket vending machines at all its stations. Every station will have at least one QR-supported vending machine and one ticket counter that can issue QR tickets. These vending machines will also allow passengers to pay using UPI, making the ticket-buying process faster and cashless.
Special QR support stickers will be placed on the vending machines and ticket counters so that passengers can easily identify them. According to metro officials, this initiative is aimed at reducing queues, encouraging digital payments, and offering a smoother travel experience for daily commuters as well as occasional passengers.
