Pune's New Metro Routes: Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor & Saswad Metro Lines Approved

To reduce traffic congestion in Pune's eastern areas, the Pune Municipal Corporation has approved a plan to introduce new metro lines. This project, costing Rs 5,704 crore, will create two metro routes-one connecting Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and the other linking Hadapsar to the Saswad railway station. The plan is part of a larger effort to improve public transport and infrastructure in Pune city, its suburbs, and surrounding rural areas.

Metro Expansion Plans

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Mahametro are working together on a transportation upgrade within Pune Municipal Corporation and PMRDA areas. The need for metro expansion is urgent due to the city's rapid growth. During a meeting held by the Pune Integrated Metropolitan Transport Authority (PUMTA), it was decided to prepare a detailed project report for these metro lines. This proposal has now been approved by the Municipal Corporation's general assembly.

Funding and Project Details

The financial plan for the metro project shows that both the Central and State Governments will contribute 20% each, while the remaining 60% will be covered through loans. The Pune Municipal Corporation has allocated Rs 3.60 crore for land acquisition, but it will not have any financial liabilities beyond this amount. This careful approach ensures that the project is managed responsibly.

Metro Routes and Stations

The Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor metro line will cover 11.5 kilometers and include 10 stations-six within municipal limits and four in rural areas. The Hadapsar to Saswad line will stretch 5.57 kilometers, featuring two stations under municipal jurisdiction. Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, the Commissioner, stated that the expansion is funded through a mix of government support and loans, making it a well-planned initiative.

After getting approvals from the Central and State Governments, a formal agreement will be signed between the Pune Municipal Corporation and Mahametro. This will mark an important step towards improving Pune's public transport system.

With the approval of these new metro lines, Pune is set for a major transformation in public transportation. This project will not only ease traffic congestion but also contribute to sustainable urban development. Supported by a strong financial plan and well-planned routes, the metro expansion promises to provide residents with a faster and more reliable way to travel.
