In good news for the people of Pune, Union Minister Muralidhar Mohol has announced that the Pune Metro will be extended to the Pune International Airport. This new plan will make it easier for people to travel and will improve the city's transport system. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been given the responsibility to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this extension.

Better travel and future plans
The minister shared that this project will help both residents and visitors by offering smooth metro connectivity to the airport from different parts of the city. The plan also includes a new metro route from Katraj to Hinjewadi. This is part of a larger idea to develop Pune into a city with an Interchangeable and Multimodal Transport Hub.
One of the key areas in this plan is Kharadi. The area is growing fast with many offices and homes being built. Because of this growth, Kharadi has been chosen as a main spot for future metro development. The new metro line will pass through Khadakwasla, Swargate, Hadapsar, and end at Kharadi. From Kharadi, travelers will be able to take the metro directly to Pune Airport.
Discussions with key officials already held
Important meetings have already taken place to start work on this idea. These meetings involved the General Managers of Maha Metro, officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). These discussions show that the project is being taken seriously and that good planning is being done from the beginning.
Union Minister Mohol said, "Since the topic of airport connectivity falls under the jurisdiction of Maha Metro and the Pune Municipal Corporation, the Corporation should take up the task of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR)."
Kharadi to become a transport hub
Minister Mohol also wrote on social media platform X that the development of Kharadi as a Multimodal Transport Hub is very important. The idea is to make it possible for people to reach the airport from any metro line in Pune. This includes the lines from Nigdi to Swargate, Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, and Vanaz to Ramwadi. These metro lines will all be connected to Pune's Lohegaon Airport. This means people from Pimpri-Chinchwad and other parts of Pune will also be able to use the metro to reach the airport directly.
The PMC has been told to fund the DPR, while Maha Metro will prepare it. This move will not only improve travel in the city but will also bring Pune closer to modern standards in transport.
