The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) has cleared five additional stations on Pune's Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 on 23 September, taking the total number of stations approved for passenger operations to 17.

The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar corridor has 23 stations spread across 23 km. The first 12 stations had earlier received provisional approval from the CMRS, while the latest clearance covers five more stations. With the additional approval, the project has reached its final stage and could be ready to start passenger services within 10 to 12 days after completing the technical requirements suggested by the safety commissioner.
Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) metropolitan commissioner Dr Abhijeet Chaudhary said the entire 23-km corridor and 17 stations have now received CMRS clearance. He said the remaining technical requirements are expected to be completed within 10 to 12 days. The administration is prepared to begin services across the 17 cleared stations, while the senior leadership will take the final decision on the inauguration.
The PMRDA has also taken up a ₹426-crore project to improve last-mile connectivity for Metro passengers in Hinjewadi. PMRDA and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will share the cost of this project equally.
The 23-km elevated Metro corridor is being developed to improve connectivity between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar. The line will provide an alternative public transport option for passengers travelling between the major IT hub and central Pune.
With the latest safety clearance, 17 of the 23 stations are now approved for passenger operations. The remaining six stations are not part of the initial operational stretch.
PMRDA officials will now focus on completing the technical requirements before services can begin. Once these requirements are fulfilled, the administration will be ready to start operations on the cleared portion, subject to the final inauguration decision.
