Kolkata Metro Railway has announced additional services on its Blue and Green lines to handle passenger traffic during the Durga Puja period. The additional trains will operate on selected weekends to provide more travel options for commuters and festival visitors.
Kolkata Metro Blue & Purple Lines: Additional Trains to Operate
On the Blue Line, extra services have been planned for Sundays, October 4 and October 11 to handle the higher number of passengers expected to use the Metro during the festival season.
The Green Line will also receive additional services on the two Sundays. On these days, the Metro will operate 236 services instead of the existing 212 services. The increase will provide additional capacity on the East-West corridor and help passengers travelling through important parts of the city.
The decision to add trains has been taken as Kolkata prepares for the heavy rush associated with Durga Puja. Metro services are widely used during the festival as large numbers of people travel across the city to visit puja pandals, markets and other popular locations.
The additional weekend services on the Blue and Green lines are intended to make passenger movement smoother and reduce pressure on regular services. The revised arrangements will allow commuters to have more train options during the busy festival period.
The Green Line connects Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake Sector V, while the Blue Line serves the north-south corridor. Both routes are expected to see increased demand during the Puja holidays.
