The Pune Metro, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has become an essential mode of transportation for city commuters, offering a safe and convenient travel option. On Good Governance Day, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil pledged the state government's full support for the metro's next phase of expansion. State Support for Metro Growth
During his review of Pune Metro's operations, Minister Chandrakant Patil expressed satisfaction with the metro's performance. He assured comprehensive support for the upcoming phase and promised to coordinate with the central government to finalize pending routes. Patil also experienced the service personally, traveling between District Court Metro Station and Mandai Metro Station, accompanied by MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar and local MLA Hemant Rasne.
Progress on Phase I Extensions
The first phase of the Pune Metro is steadily advancing. Construction on the PCMC-Nigdi route has begun, with tenders finalized for this project. The Swargate-Katraj route is in the final tender processing stage, with contractor appointments expected soon. These projects highlight Pune Metro's commitment to extending its network for better citywide connectivity.
Exciting Plans for Phase II
Pune Metro's Phase II includes ambitious plans for seven new routes, which are awaiting central government approval. The proposed lines aim to connect key areas across the city, such as:
- Vanaz to Chandni Chowk
- Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi
- Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar-Kharadi
- SNDT-Warje-Manikbagh
Additional routes under review by the Pune Municipal Corporation include extensions to Hadapsar-Loni Kalbhor and Hadapsar-Saswad, further broadening the metro's reach.
A detailed project report is also in progress for a new route connecting Nigdi, Mukai Chowk, Wakad, Nashik Phata, and Chakan. This proactive approach ensures that future metro expansions cater to Pune's growing transportation needs.
