Pune Metro is Working on the Last-Mile Connectivity on Metro Line 3 before the First Phase Opens

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is working to improve last-mile connectivity on Metro Line 3 before the first phase opens next month. This metro corridor runs from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, and officials want to make it easier for passengers to reach offices, IT parks, and other nearby places after getting off the train.

Building of Foot Overbridges

As part of this effort, PMRDA is building dedicated foot overbridges (FOBs) to connect metro stations with major employment hubs directly. One of these FOBs is almost ready, with most of the main construction finished and only final work left. PMRDA said this bridge will provide direct access from the metro station to a major IT hub, reducing the need for road travel and making commuting more convenient. PMRDA commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari said one such IT hub connection is ready, while work on similar links to other IT hubs is also underway.

Pune Metro Line Last-Mile Connectivity

Metro Line 3 is 23 km long and stretches from Maan-Hinjewadi to Ramnagar in Baner. The first phase includes 12 stations and is expected to be completed by the end of June, subject to final safety approval. If everything goes as planned, metro services on this section may start by mid-July.

Officials said the metro project has been planned with a strong focus on easy travel beyond the stations. Along with FOBs, there will be walkways, feeder buses, and dedicated pick-up and drop-off points for PMPML buses, taxis, and autorickshaws. Facilities for bicycles and e-rickshaws, as well as parking for two-wheelers and cars, will also be provided wherever possible. The plan also includes integration with app-based transport services.

How will these Measures Benefit Passengers?

PMRDA believes these steps will help people switch from private vehicles to metro travel by making journeys smoother and more convenient. The authority has also proposed extending its agreement with Tata-Siemens till March 2027, while asking the company to make the full 23-station corridor operational by December 2026. The remaining stations are expected to open in phases after the first section begins service.
