Pune Airport is ready to unveil its new terminal in phases, beginning on July 14. The first airlines to move their operations to this new terminal will be Air India and Air India Express. The inaugural flight from this terminal will be Air India's AI-858, heading to Delhi. To mark this significant milestone, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, will personally hand over the first boarding pass.

The new terminal at Pune Airport is designed to provide a better travel experience for passengers. It covers a vast area of 52,000 square meters and can accommodate up to 9 million passengers annually. This is a significant improvement from the existing terminal, which spans 22,000 square meters and can handle 7 million passengers each year.
The terminal features modern amenities, including centralized air-conditioning, which ensures a comfortable environment for travelers. The check-in process is more efficient with 34 counters and 25 self-check-in stations, making boarding smoother and faster.
Cultural Displays and Amenities
One of the highlights of the new terminal is its reflection of Pune's rich culture. Passengers will be greeted by displays showcasing local art and heritage, including a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and representations of Palkhi traditions. This unique feature adds a touch of Pune's cultural essence to the travel experience.
The terminal is designed to be family-friendly, with baby care rooms and child play areas. There is ample open seating for travelers to relax while waiting for their flights. Additionally, there are 15-20 shops offering a variety of food and beverages, catering to different tastes and preferences.

Transport and Connectivity
To facilitate easy movement of passengers between terminals, the new facility will have two electric buses and six baggage trailers. This ensures a smooth transition for passengers transferring between different parts of the airport.
The new terminal is equipped with ten aerobridges, three of which connect to the existing terminal, making it convenient for passengers to board and disembark from their flights. Baggage claim is also streamlined with five carousels, including two dedicated to international arrivals.
Future Prospects
While Air India and Air India Express are the first to move their operations to the new terminal, it is expected that other airlines will follow suit in the future. However, specific details regarding the transition of other airlines have not been announced yet.
Pune Airport's new terminal promises to enhance the travel experience with its modern facilities and cultural displays. Starting July 14, Air India and Air India Express passengers will be the first to enjoy the new amenities, marking a new chapter in the airport's history. This development is a significant step forward in accommodating the growing number of travelers and ensuring their comfort and convenience.
