On December 13, 2022, Shri G Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for Tourism, Culture, & Development of the North Eastern Region, paid a visit to Puducherry and dedicated several tourism-related projects. Under the "Swadesh Darshan" scheme, the Ministry of Tourism approved the projects.
The Swadesh Darshan Scheme is a Central Sector effort launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of the Government of India with the goal of promoting, growing, and maximizing Indian tourism's potential. Puducherry recently celebrated the opening of several tourism-related projects that would eventually give the city a fresh new look.
Below are the upcoming projects:
Aayi Mandapam renovations and creative lighting at Bharathi Park.
Construction of the ghat and pilgrim facilities at the Thirukanchi temple of Sri Gangai Varagha Natheeswarar.
Thirunallar Karaikal's Spiritual Park is being built.
Eden Beach development at Chinna Veerampattinam.
Keeping in mind Puducherry's thriving tourism business, it was decided to adopt these projects as the next step toward giving some more upgraded venues & experiences to the already existent ones. Puducherry is expected to receive more visitors once these new developments are complete.
There are reportedly a number of plans in the works to turn Puducherry into a revered spiritual centre. In fact, there are several spiritual tourism projects planned for Puducherry's Karaikal, Thirukanch, and Yanam.
