Pune Metro's daily ridership has reached around 2 lakh passengers every day for the past four months after peaking during the Ganeshotsav festival in September 2025. Even after January 2026, the number of people using the metro has not increased much. The official figures show that monthly ridership was highest

in September 2025, with over 75 lakh passengers. But since then, it has dropped and stayed mostly between 59 lakh and 62 lakh passengers per month. In January 2026, about 62.1 lakh people took the metro, which works out to roughly 2 lakh users daily, similar to the months before. Commuters in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad say the reason is poor last-mile connectivity, as it's hard for people to reach metro stations easily from their homes or destinations.
Unreliable Feeder Buses
Although feeder buses do run near many stations, they are infrequent and not reliable, and many people find them unhelpful. Many autorickshaw drivers also overcharge, ignore meters, or refuse to take short trips, making it inconvenient for people to use the metro for daily travel.
When Does Pune Metro See Spikes?
Commuters say the metro only sees big spikes during festivals like Ganeshotsav, Diwali, and New Year, but on regular days, the numbers remain unchanged. They believe that better and more frequent feeder buses, improved autorickshaw services, and parking facilities at stations would encourage more people to use the metro daily. Currently, some stations lack proper parking for bikes or vehicles, which discourages riders.
Officials from Maha Metro and the Pune Municipal Transport body (PMPML) say they are planning to redesign bus routes, add more buses, and improve services. However, challenges include bus shortages and parking problems, which are slowing progress.
The metro currently runs over 29 stations on two lines, and authorities hope planned expansions and better connectivity will boost ridership in the future.
