PM Modi to Open Kashmir’s First Rail Route via Chenab Bridge and Vande Bharat

For many people who dream of exploring the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir by train, a big moment is coming. On June 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the world's tallest railway bridge built over the Chenab River in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. This is a proud moment for India and a big step toward better travel and connection for tourists and locals. This article will help travelers understand why this is such a special achievement and how it will improve journeys to Kashmir.

PM Modi to Open Kashmir s First Rail

Chenab Bridge: A Wonder Above the River

The Chenab Bridge is now officially the highest railway arch bridge in the world. It is part of the Katra to Sangaldan rail section and stands at a height of 359 meters above the Chenab River. This makes it taller than even the Eiffel Tower. The bridge is a key part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which aims to connect Kashmir with the rest of India through rail for the first time.

With this bridge, tourists will soon be able to enjoy train journeys through the stunning landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir. It also means faster, easier, and safer travel for the people living in these regions.

Engineering Marvel and Tough Challenges

Building this bridge was not easy. The region has tough terrain and is known for seismic activity, making construction very difficult. But Indian engineers worked hard and turned what once seemed impossible into reality. The bridge is a symbol of New India's strong will and technical talent.

Railway officials shared that the Chenab Bridge can survive wind speeds of over 250 km/h. Around 30,000 metric tons of steel were used to build it. Just one foundation of the bridge, known as S20, is almost the size of one-third of a football field. This shows how massive and detailed the construction work has been.

A Part of a Bigger Plan

The Chenab Bridge is just one part of the larger USBRL project, which stretches 272 kilometers and includes 36 tunnels and nearly 1,000 bridges. This is one of the most challenging and important railway projects in India.

The rail line is made to last long and work safely. It includes electric engines powered by specially designed overhead equipment and modern tunnel safety systems. These advanced systems will make sure that trains run smoothly and safely, even in this mountainous area.

New Train Service: Katra to Srinagar Vande Bharat

Another exciting part of this event is the launch of the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat train service. This high-speed train will make travel much easier and more comfortable for pilgrims, tourists, and residents. The train was supposed to begin running on April 19, but Prime Minister Modi's visit was delayed because of bad weather.

Now, the event will finally take place on June 6. The launch is extra special, especially after recent events like the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, which have added more emotional meaning to this project.

Message from the Minister

Union Minister Jitendra Singh confirmed the news and shared his excitement on social media. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the Chenab Bridge on 6th June... History in the making. Just 3 days to go! The mighty Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge, stands tall in Jammu and Kashmir..."

A New Era for Travel in Kashmir

The inauguration of the Chenab Bridge is not just about rail travel. It marks a new era of development, connection, and pride for India. For travelers, it means easier access to the beauty of Kashmir by train. For the country, it is a clear message of progress and strength.

If you've ever wanted to see Kashmir by train, the dream is about to come true. With world-class engineering, safer travel, and improved routes, this new railway line invites everyone to explore one of India's most beautiful regions with comfort and confidence.
