The Prime Minister's flagship programme PRAGATI, which stands for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, has reached an important milestone with the successful completion of its 50th meeting. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015, PRAGATI has played a key role in improving governance by allowing the Prime Minister to

directly review major infrastructure projects and public complaints in real time. The platform brings together the central government, state governments, and Union ministries into a single digital system, demonstrating strong cooperation among different levels of government.
How has PRAGATI helped?
Over the past ten years, PRAGATI has helped speed up decision-making and resolve issues that often cause delays in large infrastructure projects. It has also created a strong sense of responsibility among officials by ensuring regular monitoring and follow-up.
Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Under PRAGATI
One major project reviewed under PRAGATI is Phase I of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, which has greatly improved sustainable transport in Gujarat's largest city. The project, implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, covers a total distance of 40.03 kilometres and has an approved cost of ₹12,924.5 crore. When the project was first reviewed under PRAGATI on April 25, 2018, only about 25 per cent of the physical work had been completed.
Addressal of Issues
After clear instructions and regular monitoring by the Prime Minister, coordination between various agencies improved. This helped address important issues such as land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement, shifting of utilities, and arranging external funding. By the next PRAGATI review on December 23, 2020, the project's physical progress had increased to nearly 62 percent.
Speeding Up the Process
Following this review, the Gujarat government sped up land handover and resettlement work. With continued support and monitoring through PRAGATI, most of Phase I, including the Blue and Red Lines, was inaugurated by the Prime Minister on September 30, 2022, and opened to the public in early October 2022.
The remaining sections were completed later, and today the entire Ahmedabad Metro Phase I network is fully operational, providing clean, safe, and efficient transport across the city.
