Patna to Bettiah New 4-Lane Expressway: 163.68 km Project to Cut Travel Time by Half

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched an important infrastructure project to build a four-lane expressway connecting Patna to Bettiah. This expressway will cut the travel time between the two cities from six hours to just 2.5 hours, making it easier and faster for people to travel.

Patna to Bettiah New Expressway

The project, with a budget of Rs 5,996 crore, is expected to boost economic growth in Bettiah and surrounding areas by improving connectivity and providing better access to the region. The expressway will cover a distance of 163.68 km and is planned to be completed by 2027.

Phases of Development and Progress

The Patna-Bettiah expressway is divided into four phases. The first segment, which is 38.81 km long, runs from Bakarpur in Vaishali to Manikpur in Muzaffarpur, and construction has already started. The second phase will cover 44.65 km from Manikpur to Sahebganj. The NHAI has selected an agency for this phase and is moving forward with the next stages. The remaining two segments will stretch from Sahebganj to Areraj (39.64 km) and from Areraj to Bettiah. Work on these segments will begin once the appropriate agencies are chosen.

The expressway will follow a greenfield corridor for nearly 145 km, offering a direct and less congested route. It will pass through areas like Bakarpur, Manikpur, Sahebganj, and Areraj before reaching Bettiah. This new route will make travel between the cities faster and more efficient.

Features of the Project

The expressway will connect Patna to Bettiah in a shorter and more convenient way, improving travel not only for individuals but also for goods transportation. It will begin at Bakarpur, cross the JP Setu Bridge over the Ganga River at Digha, and continue toward Bettiah. The current road between Patna and Bettiah is nearly 205 km long, but the new expressway will significantly reduce this distance.

The NHAI has made careful plans for the construction phases to ensure smooth progress. With the second phase already set to start, the project is on track to be completed by 2027. Once finished, it will offer a much-needed boost to the transportation network in Bihar.

The Patna-Bettiah expressway is a major step toward improving Bihar's road infrastructure. This project will not only reduce travel time but also drive economic growth in the region. By providing better connectivity, the expressway will make it easier for people and businesses to move between Patna and Bettiah. As the project moves forward, it will play a key role in improving accessibility and boosting prosperity in Bihar.
