Exciting news for the residents of Bihar's capital! Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL) has announced the integration of the metro's first corridor with the city's bus depot, promising enhanced connectivity and reduced traffic congestion. The project, aimed at improving urban mobility, is progressing rapidly, with operations scheduled to begin on August 15, 2025. This much-anticipated development is set to benefit commuters by linking key areas such as ISBT, Zero Mile, Bhootnath, Khemnichak, and Mallahi Pakdi.

Progress on the First Corridor
A high-level review meeting, chaired by Abhay Kumar Singh, Managing Director of Patna Metro, emphasized the importance of adhering to the project's timeline. Singh assured that construction is on track to meet the August 2025 deadline, with the corridor from Malahi Pakri to ISBT expected to be operational by this date. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), responsible for the construction, is diligently working to ensure the timely completion of the 6-kilometer priority stretch.
Strategic Importance of the Metro
The Patna Metro project comprises two main corridors: the East-West Corridor and the North-South Corridor, spanning nearly 31 kilometers and including 24 stations. The priority corridor, part of the North-South line, will pave the way for the metro's operational debut, aligning strategically with the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for late 2025. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar views the project as a cornerstone of his government's achievements, designed to boost the state's development and public appeal.
Infrastructure and Key Stations
The project features a mix of elevated and underground tracks. The first phase of construction includes significant stations such as ISBT, Zero Mile, Bhootnath, and Mallahi Pakdi. Notable progress includes the near-completion of Mallahi Pakdi station and the development of a ramp connecting the New Patliputra Bus Terminal to the depot.
Economic and Environmental Impact
Beyond improving connectivity, the metro is expected to create numerous employment opportunities, boosting the local economy. It also aims to address environmental concerns by reducing air pollution and easing traffic congestion in the city. This initiative aligns with PMRCL's vision to uplift the quality of life in Patna by offering an efficient and eco-friendly mode of transportation.
Urban Development Minister Nitin Naveen recently inspected the ISBT Metro Depot, commending the project's progress and urging officials to stay on schedule. With construction advancing at a steady pace, the metro is poised to revolutionize transit in Patna.
The Patna Metro project represents a major step forward in urban infrastructure, providing much-needed relief to commuters while setting the stage for sustainable growth in Bihar's capital.
