Updating your passport photo in 2025 is an easy and smooth process if you follow the right steps. The process begins on the Passport Seva website, where you must create a new user profile.
Creating a Profile on the Passport Seva Website
To register, you need to select the correct passport office based on your location, such as Delhi. You must enter your name, date of birth, and email ID. Your email ID can also be used as your login. Then, set a password, choose a security question and answer, enter a captcha code, and complete the registration. A confirmation email will be sent with a verification link to activate your account.
Filling Out the Application Form
Once your account is active, log in to the Passport Seva website and choose whether you need a new passport or a re-issue. Select your Regional Passport Office (RPO) by choosing your state and district. If you are applying for a re-issue, you need to mention the reason, like a change in personal details. Choose the processing type (normal or Tatkal) and the booklet size (36 pages or 60 pages).
Now, enter your personal details like full name, gender, date of birth, place of birth, and marital status. You also need to provide optional details like PAN number, voter ID, employment type, and educational qualifications. Aadhaar number and any visible identification marks must also be provided.
Entering Family and Address Details
Enter your parents' names and, if married, your spouse's name. Next, fill in your current and permanent address. If both addresses are the same, you can select that option. Also, provide an emergency contact name and number.
Submitting Documents and Booking an Appointment
For those with an existing passport, enter your passport number, issue and expiry dates, and place of issue. If you don't have a diplomatic passport, you can skip that section. Answer any questions regarding criminal records before moving on.
You need to upload documents such as proof of birth and residential address. After completing the self-declaration, submit the form. Now, proceed to payment and appointment booking.
Fees and Appointment Scheduling
The fee for a 36-page passport is Rs 1500, while a 60-page passport costs Rs 2000. Select the appointment location, enter the captcha code, choose an appointment date, and make the payment. Print the application and receipt before visiting the passport office.
Visiting the Passport Office
On the day of your appointment, arrive 15 minutes early and bring:
- Aadhaar card
- Photocopy of your old passport
- Printed application form
- Two recent passport-size photographs
The processing time varies. Normal processing takes 1 to 3 weeks, while Tatkal processing is faster at an extra cost.
