Over 4,100 pilgrims departed from Jammu city early Tuesday to join the Amarnath Yatra, officials reported. The pilgrims headed towards the twin base camps in Kashmir amid heightened security measures. The security has been intensified around the base camps and along the yatra route. This follows an ambush in Dessa area of Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, which resulted in the deaths of four soldiers, including an officer.

Enhanced Security Measures
Authorities have implemented comprehensive arrangements for a smooth pilgrimage. These include a three-tier security system, area dominations, extensive route deployment, and numerous checkpoints.
The 19th batch of 4,132 pilgrims left at 3:04 am from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in 151 vehicles. They were escorted by CRPF personnel to ensure their safety during the journey.
Pilgrims' Routes
Among the pilgrims, 2,324 chose the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route. Meanwhile, 1,808 opted for the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route.
Since June 28, when Lt Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch, a total of 1,00,204 pilgrims have departed from Jammu base camp for the Valley.
Yatra Duration and Participation
The Amarnath Yatra commenced on June 29 and will conclude on August 19. Last year, over 4.5 lakh pilgrims visited the cave shrine during this period.
The authorities are committed to ensuring a safe and smooth pilgrimage experience for all participants despite recent security challenges.
