To meet the rising travel demand during the Onam festival, Indian Railways has announced special train services connecting Karnataka and Kerala. Additional trains will operate on the Mysuru-Kannur and Kannur-Bengaluru Cantonment routes, providing more travel options for passengers during the festive season.

Onam Special Trains from Bengaluru
The schedule of these special trains was shared by Southern Railway on its official social media platform. Passengers have been advised to book their tickets early as a large number of people are expected to travel during Onam. South Western Railway has introduced special services to manage the increased passenger rush.
The Mysuru-Kannur Express Special (Train No. 06229) will run on August 29, 2026. The train will leave Mysuru at 11:55 pm and reach Kannur at 5:50 pm the next day. It will stop at important stations including Mandya, KSR Bengaluru, Bengaluru Cantonment, Salem, Erode, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Thalassery, and other locations.
The return service, Kannur-Bengaluru Cantonment Express Special (Train No. 06230), will operate on August 30, 2026. It will depart from Kannur at 7:45 pm and arrive at Bengaluru Cantonment at 10 am the following day. The train will halt at stations such as Thalassery, Vadakara, Kozhikode, Tirur, Shoranur, Palakkad, Podanur, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, and Bangarapet.
Reservations are Going on
Reservation for these special trains began from 8 am on July 18, 2026. Railway officials have encouraged passengers travelling during Onam to reserve their seats early due to expected high demand.

These additional services are expected to provide better connectivity and smoother travel for people travelling between Kerala and Karnataka during the festival season.
