Southern Railway has announced special train services connecting Karnataka and Tamil Nadu with Kerala to manage the expected increase in passenger traffic during the Onam festival. The additional trains will provide more travel options for people returning to Kerala for the celebrations and help reduce pressure on regular services.
Onam Special Trains
A special train will operate between Hubballi in Karnataka and Kottayam in Kerala via Salem, Erode, Tiruppur and Podanur. Train No. 07351 will leave Hubballi at 6.30 pm on August 25 and reach Kottayam at 4.40 pm the next day. The return service, Train No. 07352, will depart Kottayam at 10.30 pm on August 26 and arrive at Hubballi at 8 pm on August 27.
The Hubballi-Kottayam special will stop at several important stations, including Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Podanur, Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva and Ernakulam Town, along with other stations in Karnataka. The train will have AC 2-Tier, AC 3-Tier, Sleeper Class and General Second Class coaches, giving passengers different travel options.
Southern Railway has also introduced weekly special trains between Chennai Central and Kollam. Train No. 06119 will run on Wednesdays from August 12 to September 2. It will leave Chennai Central at 3.10 pm and reach Kollam at 7.20 am the following day. The return service, Train No. 06120, will operate on Thursdays from August 13 to September 3.
The Chennai-Kollam special will travel through Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur and Podanur before entering Kerala. It will also stop at Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam and other important stations.
These additional services are expected to make Onam travel easier for passengers travelling between Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The special trains will provide extra capacity during the busy festival season and offer passengers more choices while planning their journeys.
