Southern Railway has introduced special train services to handle the surge in passenger traffic during the Onam festival. Among these is the Chennai Central-Kannur special (06009), scheduled to run on August 28. The train will depart Chennai Central at 11:55 p.m., reach Palakkad at 9:32 a.m., halt at Kozhikode at 11:50 a.m., and finally arrive in Kannur at 2:00 p.m. the next day.

Ticket reservations for this service opened on Wednesday morning, allowing passengers to secure their seats in advance. These special trains have been arranged to make festive travel smoother, helping Onam travelers reach their destinations with greater ease and comfort.
Changes to Kollam-Tambaram Train Schedule
Starting September 1, the Kollam-Tambaram daily service (16102) will run on a revised schedule. Instead of the earlier noon departure, the train will now leave Kollam at 4:00 p.m. and reach Tambaram at 7:30 a.m. the following day. The adjustment has been made to better serve passengers during the festive season.
In addition, a special train (06125) will operate from Kannur to Bengaluru on August 29, departing at 11:30 p.m. and reaching Bengaluru by 11:00 a.m. the next morning, offering travelers a convenient overnight journey.
Details for the Return Trip
The return service from Bengaluru to Kannur (06126) is scheduled to depart on August 30 at 7:00 p.m., reaching Kannur at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, giving passengers a convenient option to travel back after the weekend.
These special train arrangements are part of Southern Railway's efforts to manage the surge in Onam travel demand, ensuring passengers have reliable and timely transport options.
By introducing revised schedules and additional services, Southern Railway reinforces its commitment to passenger comfort and convenience, particularly during culturally significant occasions like Onam.
