Southern Railway has announced 92 special train services to handle the heavy travel demand during Onam. These trains will run across key routes, including Chennai, Mangaluru, Bengaluru, Velankanni, and Patna, helping ease congestion and ensure smoother festive travel.

Additional Coaches on Key Routes
In addition to the special trains, Southern Railway has increased capacity by adding extra coaches to ten key services in the region. The Thiruvananthapuram-Kozhikode-Thiruvananthapuram Janshatabdi Express (12076/12075) now includes a chair car, while several other trains have been strengthened with additional general second-class or sleeper coaches.
For instance, the Thiruvananthapuram-Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram Vanchinad Express (16304/16303) has been allotted an extra general second-class coach, and the Thiruvananthapuram-Guruvayur-Thiruvananthapuram Intercity Express (16342/16341) has also been equipped with an additional general second-class coach.
Details of Special Train Services
Out of the 92 special train services introduced, six will operate on the Chennai route, 22 on the Mangaluru route, 18 on the Bengaluru route, 10 on the Velankanni route, and 36 on the Patna route. These measures are expected to significantly ease travel during the busy Onam season.
In addition, the Thiruvananthapuram-Madurai-Thiruvananthapuram Amrita Express (16343/16344) has been allotted an extra general second-class coach, while the Mangaluru-Thiruvananthapuram-Mangaluru Maveli Express (16603/16604) has been upgraded with an additional sleeper coach to enhance passenger convenience.
