On Wednesday, Kerala will come alive with vibrant Onam celebrations across its districts. The festivities will include grand inaugurations, cultural showcases, and musical performances.
Popular venues such as Thirunakkara in Kottayam, Nishagandhi at Kanakakunnu in Thiruvananthapuram, and Indira Priyadarshini Children's Park in Ernakulam will host a variety of events featuring talented artists.
In Kottayam, the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi's DC Kizhakemuri Idam Art Gallery will open a caricature and cartoon exhibition dedicated to Thomas Antony at 10:00 a.m. Simultaneously, a friendly cricket match will be held at the CMS College ground. At the same time, the KPS Menon Hall will showcase an exhibition and sale of handloom textiles and handicrafts, adding a traditional touch to the celebrations.
What's happening in Ernakulam
At Ernakulam's Marine Drive ground, a handicraft exhibition organized by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs will open at 10:00 a.m. From 10:30 a.m., the TDM Hall will host an Onam sale organized by Ernakulam Karayogam. Meanwhile, the Antilia Maldives Fest and Onam Trade Fair will kick off at Ernakulathappan ground at 11:00 a.m.
The Onam market, organized by Thevara Urban Cooperative Society, will be held at St. Joseph's Church parking ground from 11:00 a.m. On the same day, the Kaloor Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will present the Gaddika traditional art festival along with product exhibitions starting at 11:00 a.m., followed by seminars on Scheduled Tribes and Legal Protection at 3:00 p.m.
Cultural Events Across Venues
A cultural program is scheduled for 5:00 p.m., followed by vibrant folk performances such as Paniya and Koraga dances beginning at 6:00 p.m. At the same time, Vyttila's Hotel Anugraha will host festive events organized in association with the Prakruthi Service Society.
The Durbar Hall ground will come alive with Lavanayam celebrations, featuring a classical dance recital by Kalady Sanskrit University at 6:00 p.m., followed by a soulful Sufi Mehfil by Anita Sheikh at 7:00 p.m.
As part of the DTPC Onam festivities at Indira Priyadarshini Children's Park, Ernakulam, a musical performance by Voice of Red Star and storytelling by Marayamutttam Johny will begin at 6:00 p.m. The highlight of the evening will be the inauguration of a musical fountain by Mayor M. Anil Kumar at 7:00 p.m.
The DTPC celebrations will conclude at Veli ground in Fort Kochi, where Praseetha Chalakudy will perform traditional folk songs starting at 7:00 p.m., marking the finale of the day's events.
Celebrations in Kottayam
The Onam Fest will commence at Nagampadam ground at 11:00 a.m., followed by an Athappookkalam (floral carpet) competition at YMCA Hall at 3:00 p.m. On the same afternoon, the Darshana Cultural Centre will host special celebrations for senior citizens along with a cultural evening starting at 3:00 p.m.
District-level Onam festivities at Thirunakkara are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m., with Minister V. N. Vasavan inaugurating the event. The celebrations will feature performances by Chief Whip N. Jayaraj and popular playback singer Jassie Gift.
Onam Week Celebrations at Thiruvananthapuram
In Thiruvananthapuram, the Tourism Department's Onam Week celebrations will officially begin at 6:00 p.m. at Kanakakunnu Nishagandhi, inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the presence of ministers and distinguished guests, including actor Ravi Mohan and filmmaker Basil Joseph.
Earlier in the day, at 11:00 a.m., Minister R. Bindu will assume charge of the Senior Citizens' Commission at the Secretariat Durbar Hall. At 3:00 p.m., renowned singer M. G. Sreekumar will launch a music video for the Waste-Free Nava Kerala Campaign at the Symphony Hall of Muscat Hotel.
