Western Railway Launches Month-Long Night Block Between Borivali and Kandivali Disrupting 70–80 Local Trains D

Western Railway (WR) has announced that many train services will be affected due to a month-long night block between Borivali and Kandivali, starting from Saturday. Due to this, around 70 to 80 local trains may be cancelled every day, and more than 100 long-distance or outstation trains are also likely to be impacted.

Passenger Services to be Suspended

The block will be in place daily from 11 pm to 4.30 am, at least until December 26, after which the timings may be changed. According to Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of WR, the block is needed to carry out work on the long-pending sixth railway line between Borivali and Kandivali. During this period, passenger train services on the fifth line between the two stations will remain suspended. Trains on other lines will run with speed restrictions.

Construction Work

All trains that usually run on the fifth line will be diverted to the fast line between Andheri or Goregaon and Borivali. The construction work on the sixth line will begin on the night between Saturday and Sunday and continue till January 18, 2026. This new line will help separate suburban local trains from long-distance trains in the future. The work will include shifting tracks, adding and removing crossovers, and carrying out engineering, signalling, and overhead equipment tasks.

Due to this work, several suburban and outstation train services will be cancelled or rescheduled. Information about affected local trains will be available from station masters at suburban stations. A WR official said that 35-40 local trains in both northbound and southbound directions may be cancelled daily.

Disruption in Regular Services

Long-distance trains may be short-terminated, rescheduled, or may skip Borivali station and halt instead at Andheri or Vasai Road. Although passengers may face inconvenience, railway user representatives believe the work is necessary for better services in the future. WR has also assured efforts to run extra services and avoid cancellations on New Year's Eve.
