The Indian Railways is all set to introduce a new era of overnight train travel with the unveiling of the Vande Bharat sleeper coach. Recently showcased by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) facility in Bengaluru, this new sleeper coach is expected to start operations in Karnataka within the next three months. The introduction of this coach marks a significant step forward in enhancing passenger comfort, safety, and overall travel experience on Indian trains.

A New Era in Train Travel
The Vande Bharat sleeper coach has been designed with modern features and amenities to ensure a superior travel experience. The interiors are crafted with Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) panels, giving the coach a sleek and modern look. The coach also includes automatic exterior doors and sensor-based intercommunication doors, adding to the convenience and safety of passengers.
Comfortable and Convenient
Passengers traveling on the Vande Bharat sleeper coach will enjoy a range of comfort features. The coach has spacious luggage rooms to accommodate travelers' belongings securely. Each berth is equipped with integrated reading lights and USB charging points, allowing passengers to stay connected and entertained during their journey. Additionally, modular pantries are included to provide easy access to food and refreshments.
Capacity and Accommodation
The Vande Bharat sleeper train will consist of 16 coaches. Among these, there are 11 AC 3-tier coaches with a total of 611 berths, 4 AC 2-tier coaches with 188 berths, and 1 AC First Class Coach with 24 berths. This capacity ensures that a large number of passengers can travel comfortably, making it an ideal choice for overnight journeys.
Speed and Safety
One of the standout features of the Vande Bharat sleeper train is its speed. The train can operate at a maximum speed of 160 km/h, with a testing speed of 180 km/h. This makes it one of the fastest trains in the country. Safety has also been given top priority, with the train being equipped with the 'Kavach' safety system, which is designed to enhance operational safety and prevent accidents.
Launch and Testing
Before the Vande Bharat sleeper coach is made available to the public, it will undergo a rigorous 10-day trial period. This trial is crucial to ensure that the train meets all safety and performance standards. After the trial, further testing will be conducted to fine-tune any aspects of the coach. If all goes as planned, the train is expected to begin passenger operations within three months.
A New Standard in Train Travel
The introduction of the Vande Bharat sleeper coach is a significant milestone in Indian Railways' efforts to modernize and improve train travel in the country. With its modern design, enhanced comfort, and advanced safety features, the Vande Bharat sleeper train is poised to offer a travel experience that surpasses even the Rajdhani Express. Passengers can look forward to a faster, safer, and more comfortable journey as they travel overnight across India.
