A fresh wave of sports excitement is coming to Ahmedabad. The city's civic body has approved plans for several new play areas, giving local athletes more places to train and families more spots to enjoy weekend outings. From Devnagar village to Paldi, new courts, pools, and gyms will soon add life to neighborhoods and help the city prepare for its dream of hosting the 2036 Olympics.

New mini sports complex in devnagar
Near the HP petrol pump in Devnagar village, Gotama, a mini sports complex will rise on land already set aside by the municipality. The complex will include both indoor and outdoor games. Inside, visitors can look forward to a multipurpose hall, table tennis and squash courts, a small gym, reception and administrative areas, a medical room for first aid, plus a juice bar and food court for quick snacks. Outdoors, plans call for two tennis courts, a basketball court, a kabaddi court, and an open‑air gym.
Olympic-sized swimming pool
One of the biggest draws will be an Olympic‑length swimming pool complete with shower and changing rooms. For parents and friends, shaded seating will make watching meets and practice sessions more comfortable. A large parking area at the entrance should ease congestion on match days.
Tenders and cost
Six construction firms competed for the Devnagar project. Shreeji Krupa Project Limited offered the lowest bid-4.67 percent below the city's estimate-making it the front‑runner to build the complex once the standing committee gives final clearance.
New tennis court for paldi
Another welcome upgrade is coming to Paldi, where a dedicated tennis court will be built for ₹50.28 lakh. The winning tender, submitted by Dwarkesh Construction, promises to finish the 3,885‑square‑metre site in just six months. Along with the hardcourt surface, workers will add a compound wall for safety, a walking track for daily exercise, and on‑site water taps for players to cool off.
Building a sports‑ready city
These projects are part of a wider plan to boost sports infrastructure in every zone of Ahmedabad. Officials have already reserved final plot 162 in Town Planning Scheme 32 (north‑west zone) for future municipal sports use. By spreading facilities throughout the city, leaders hope to create a strong base of young talent and healthy citizens long before any Olympic torch arrives.
What this means for residents
For students, the new sites provide practice space close to home, saving travel time. For local clubs, events such as swimming meets or evening basketball leagues will be easier to host. And for families, the added gyms and walking tracks encourage fitness at every age.
