New Rapid Rail to Link Lucknow-Kanpur: Check the Routes for 45-Minute Weather-Proof Journey

People who travel between Lucknow and Kanpur every day will soon have a faster and easier option. A new rapid rail service is being planned to connect these two major cities. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is leading this important project. Recently, an NCRTC team visited Lucknow to check the progress of the work.

New Rapid Rail to Link Lucknow-Kanpur

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has already given a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the project. A meeting was held with government officials to review how the project fits into the city's master plan. LDA confirmed there is no issue, as long as the Detailed Project Report (DPR) follows the plan.

Rapid Rail Route and Travel Time

The new rapid rail will start from near Amausi Airport in Lucknow and go all the way to Kanpur. At present, the road journey takes 1.5 to 2 hours. The rapid rail will reduce this time to just 40-50 minutes. It will make travel between the two cities quicker and more comfortable.

The new rail system will also be linked with metro stations. This will allow people to move between the two cities without any break in travel, helping to strengthen regional transport.

Rail to Run in All Weather

One special feature of this rail project is that it will run without delays, even during winter fog. It will have advanced technology that helps it function in all kinds of weather.

A similar rapid rail is already being built between Delhi and Meerut. That rail line has modern features like high speed, automatic doors, smooth braking, and smart ticketing. All these benefits will be included in the Lucknow-Kanpur rail as well.

Why This Project Matters

Thousands of people travel between Lucknow and Kanpur every day by road or train. These journeys can take a long time. The rapid rail will save time, reduce road traffic, and help the environment by cutting pollution. The proposal for the project was first made in 2015, and an RFP (Request for Proposal) was prepared after a government meeting in 2021.

Proposed Route and Future Growth

The rail will run parallel to the road from Amausi to Bani. From Bani to Jaitipur in Unnao, a new path will be created next to existing train tracks. It will pass through Ajgain and Magarwara and reach the Ganga Barrage in Kanpur.

This means people from Kanpur will be able to reach Amausi Airport in 40-50 minutes. The route also supports growth in different areas-warehouses in Unnao, industries near Ajgain, and new housing areas up to Barrage.
