New Meerut to Varanasi Vande Bharat Express to Start in August: Check Timings, Routes

Varanasi is set to receive another Vande Bharat train. The Meerut-Lucknow Vande Bharat Express will now extend its route to Varanasi Cantt via Ayodhya Dham. Starting 28th August, this train will offer direct service from Meerut to Varanasi for the first time. Previously, there was no direct train connecting these two cities.

The Northern Railway's Lucknow division has finalised the schedule and route for train number 22489/22490, the Meerut-Lucknow Vande Bharat Express. The journey from Meerut to Varanasi will take approximately 11 hours and 55 minutes. This train will travel through Ayodhya Dham and reach Varanasi Cantt.

Direct Service Benefits

The introduction of this direct service is expected to ease travel for passengers, especially those involved in sports businesses, entrepreneurs, and students pursuing engineering and medical courses. Previously, travellers had to either go to Prayagraj railway station or get off at Ghaziabad and take a bus to reach Meerut.

Train number 22490 will depart from Meerut City at 6:35 AM, reaching Moradabad at 8:40 AM, Bareilly at 10:11 AM, passing through Alamnagar before arriving in Lucknow at 1:55 PM, Ayodhya Dham at 3:55 PM, and finally reaching Varanasi Cantt by 6:25 PM.

Route Details

On its return journey as train number 22489, it will leave Varanasi Cantt at 9:10 AM, stopping at Ayodhya Dham by 11:40 AM, Lucknow by 1:30 PM, Bareilly by 5:15 PM, Moradabad by 6:50 PM, and concluding its journey in Meerut City by 9:05 PM. The total distance of 782.22 km will be covered in under 12 hours.

This new service marks the seventh Vande Bharat train operating from Varanasi. Currently, five trains run from Varanasi Cantt and one from Banaras station towards Agra. Additionally, there are trains heading towards Ranchi, Deoghar, Patna, and two on the New Delhi route.

This development is anticipated to significantly benefit travellers by providing a more convenient travel option between these regions. With this new addition to the rail network, accessibility between Meerut and Eastern Uttar Pradesh is expected to improve substantially.
