The Kadamakkudy Water Metro project in Kochi is set to begin operations shortly, and officials are expecting the service to be within the next three months. Work on the Kadamakkudy water metro terminal has reached its final stage, and it will be ready for use soon, according to Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML).

The nearby Paliyamthuruth terminal is also almost finished and will open around the same time.
Metro Boats to Benefit Kochi's Passengers
Once these terminals are active, boats will operate between Kadamakkudy and the city, with links planned from the High Court terminal to Kadamakkudy and Pizhala, and possibly from Mattancherry to Paliyamthuruth.
The metro boats are expected to avoid the direct waterway between Pizhala and Kadamakkudy so as not to disturb the traditional Chinese fishing nets in that area, which are a key attraction for visitors. Instead, the route may go around these nets via Vypeen or Vallarpadam.
Currently, local people usually use small boats to travel between the islands, but many of these services have disappeared over the years as roads improved. Still, road travel is limited because many routes are narrow, so a water transport system is seen as very helpful for both residents and tourists.
Once the water metro terminals are running, they should make it easier for people to move around and boost tourism, especially because Kadamakkudy's backwaters, village life, and natural beauty draw many visitors.
At least at first, the water metro may run based mainly on demand rather than with frequent scheduled trips, since there are fewer daily commuters in this area compared with other parts of Kochi's water metro network. Officials say the service will grow as demand increases.
