Furthermore, the IMD predicts that temperatures will not only rise in the immediate future but will also remain elevated above normal levels across various parts of Delhi. The forecast for Wednesday alone expects highs of around 40-42 degrees Celsius, with the possibility of a further increase in the following days. "The maximum temperatures are likely to rise over Delhi by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next five days. Temperatures are likely to remain 41-43 degrees Celsius during April 24-26. It will be above normal by 2-4 degrees Celsius over different parts of Delhi," IMD stated, highlighting the unusual warmth for this time of year.
Delhi has already experienced a spell of intense heat earlier this month, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius for three days straight at Safdarjung, the city's primary weather station. This period of extreme heat from April 7 to 9 precedes the current forecast, indicating a recurring pattern of high temperatures affecting the region. Additionally, the city's air quality has deteriorated, registering as 'poor' with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 227, a slight increase from 205 the previous day. The air quality is expected to remain at similar levels until April 25, contributing to the environmental challenges faced by the city's residents during this period of extreme weather.
