New BMTC Bus Routes Launched To Boost Bengaluru's Public Transport

With the introduction of new bus routes by BMTC, Bengaluru aims to improve public transportation. Meanwhile, the proposed garbage disposal cess by BBMP has sparked controversy among residents facing high commodity prices.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BB) has launched new bus routes under the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) to enhance public transportation across the city. Starting Friday, July 5, BMTC introduced buses on several new routes aimed at improving commuter convenience and accessibility. The initiative aims to provide efficient, reliable, comfortable, and economical transport options to residents of Bengaluru.

Amid rising costs of essential commodities, the BBMP has drawn public ire for proposing a new garbage disposal cess on city residents. The additional financial burden, estimated at Rs 100 per month per household, comes at a time when residents are already grappling with soaring prices of daily necessities.

New Bus Routes Introduced by BMTC

The new routes include: From the back gate of MF-2 Baiyappanahalli metro station to Ramamurthynagar bridge. Departure times: 7:20, 8:00, 8:40, 9:20, 10:25, 17:05, 17:45, 18:25, 19:30, 20:10, 20:50. Another route covers B. Channasandra, SBI Bank, Kasturnagar 2nd Stage, Benniganahalli Bridge, and Sadananda Nagar. Departure times for this route are set at 7:40, 8:20, 9:00, 9:40, 17:25, 18:05, 18:45, and later in the evening at intervals until 20:30.

The introduction of these routes is part of BMTC's ongoing efforts to expand its service network and cater to the growing commuting needs of Bengaluru's residents.

Public Reaction to Garbage Disposal Cess

The BBMP's move to levy this cess has sparked controversy. Many residents have expressed dismay over the timing and necessity of such a measure. With essential commodity prices already high, this additional charge is seen as an unwelcome burden.

KEA Releases List for Special Category Quotas

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has published the list of eligible and ineligible candidates under special categories such as NCC, Sainik, Ex-Servicemen, Scouts and Guides, and Anglo-Indian for admission to medical, engineering, and other professional courses. Candidates who applied under these categories had submitted their documents online for verification.

According to KEA Executive Director H Prasanna, the list of KEEDA quota candidates will be announced soon after thorough verification by concerned authorities.

This initiative by BMTC aims to provide better connectivity within Bengaluru while addressing commuter needs efficiently. Meanwhile, BBMP's proposed garbage disposal cess continues to face backlash from residents already struggling with high living costs.
