Starting January 20, Navi Mumbai's Metro Line No. 1 will introduce more frequent services during rush hours, with trains running every 10 minutes. This change aims to improve the daily commute for residents and has been planned by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) in response to positive passenger feedback.
The metro line, which began operating on November 17, 2023, connects Belapur and Pendhar, serving key areas like CBD Belapur, the Taloja Industrial Area, and several CIDCO housing complexes. This has significantly improved connectivity and made travel easier for thousands of commuters.
Enhanced Metro Services During Peak Hours
To address the increasing number of passengers, CIDCO has decided to enhance the metro service frequency during peak hours. From 7:30 AM to 10 AM and 5:30 PM to 8 PM at Belapur, and from 7 AM to 9:30 AM and 5 PM to 7:30 PM at Pendhar, metro trains will now run every 10 minutes. During non-peak hours, the frequency will adjust to every 15 minutes, ensuring smooth service throughout the day.
This move is expected to reduce waiting times and ease congestion, making commuting more convenient for everyone. The extended frequency reflects CIDCO's commitment to providing efficient and comfortable public transportation.
Operating Hours Tailored for Commuters
The metro service has also been designed to accommodate the needs of early risers and late travelers. The first train departs at 6 AM from both Belapur and Pendhar stations, while the last train leaves Belapur at 10 PM and Pendhar at 9:45 PM. This schedule ensures residents have reliable transport options throughout the day, catering to Navi Mumbai's busy lifestyle.
CIDCO's Focus on Urban Mobility
CIDCO officials have emphasized that this change is part of their ongoing efforts to make the metro a preferred choice for daily travel. "The metro services have been receiving an overwhelming response from passengers. To facilitate additional metro services and ease travel during peak hours, a revised timetable of metro services will be introduced from January 20," said a CIDCO representative.
By revising the timetable, CIDCO aims to provide a seamless travel experience, addressing the needs of both office-goers and casual travelers.
