Work on Nagpur Metro Phase-2 is progressing steadily, and its impact is now clearly visible across the city. Nearly half of the viaduct piers, an important part of Metro construction, have already been completed on different routes. This marks a major step forward in expanding Nagpur's metro rail network.

Nagpur Metro Phase 2
According to official figures, 684 out of 1,514 piers planned under Phase-2 have been fully built so far. This means about 45% of the pier work is complete. Pier construction is a key stage because these structures support the elevated tracks and allow further work, such as placing spans and building viaducts.
Nagpur Metro's Orange & Aqua Line
Among the corridors, the Orange Line's Automotive Square to Kanhan section has shown the fastest progress, with 302 of 466 piers completed, or nearly 65% work done. In comparison, the Khapri to Butibori stretch is still at an early stage, with 142 of 612 piers constructed. On the Aqua Line extensions, the Prajapati Nagar to Transport Nagar corridor has completed almost half of its piers, while the Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna section has reached about 59% completion.
Challenges Faced
Construction work slowed slightly in recent months due to a shortage of natural river sand, which is essential for making concrete. To deal with this, MahaMetro began using crushed or manufactured sand. This change required approvals and technical adjustments, which affected work speed to some extent. Limited availability of crushed sand plants also brought challenges, as many corridors were under construction at the same time. However, officials confirmed that work was never fully stopped on any route.
MahaMetro's Progress
MahaMetro improved planning, material management, and scheduling for steady progress. Four major casting yards are now fully operational and can produce over 500 segments per month, helping speed up viaduct construction. Work is also ongoing at 26 out of 32 stations, and construction of complex structures, including major river crossings, is underway. Phase-2 of Nagpur Metro is expected to be completed by November 2027.
