Modi Flags Off Three Amrit Bharat Express Trains and One MEMU in Kerala Ahead of Elections

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off three new Amrit Bharat Express trains and one passenger train in Kerala on Friday. The launch will take place during his visit to Thiruvananthapuram, where he is also scheduled to address a rally of BJP workers. The new trains are expected to improve rail connectivity in the state, especially as Kerala prepares for Assembly elections later this year.

The three Amrit Bharat Express services include the Nagercoil-Mangaluru Amrit Bharat Express, the Thiruvananthapuram-Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express, and the Thiruvananthapuram-Hyderabad Amrit Bharat Express. Moreover, a new Guruvayur-Thrissur passenger train will also be flagged off.

Amrit Bharat Trains to Connect Several Towns

According to railway officials, the Nagercoil-Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram-Hyderabad Amrit Bharat Express trains will run through Kerala via Kottayam. Meanwhile, the Thiruvananthapuram-Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express will operate through Nagercoil. These routes have been chosen to connect important towns and cities and to benefit a large number of passengers across the state.

Amrit Bharat Express Operations

The Guruvayur-Thrissur passenger train will run as a MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) service. This train will operate daily and is expected to help devotees and daily commuters travelling between Thrissur and the temple town of Guruvayur. The Amrit Bharat Express trains will run once a week and will stop at several major stations in Kerala. Railway officials said that these trains are designed on the lines of Vande Bharat trains and will offer similar modern features. However, unlike Vande Bharat, these are non-air-conditioned trains.

Each Amrit Bharat train can carry more than 1,800 passengers and has a design speed of over 130 km per hour, helping reduce travel time. The launch of these trains comes at a time when Kerala is heading for Assembly elections in April or May, making the announcements politically and developmentally significant.
