A recent survey by Time Out in 2025 has revealed the best cities in the world to live in, based on factors like food, culture, nightlife, cost of living, and quality of life. Cape Town claimed the top spot, impressing with its stunning landscapes, exciting nightlife, and delicious food. Bangkok and New York City followed closely, while Melbourne and London rounded out the top five. Each city offers a unique blend of cultural richness, excellent food, and vibrant lifestyles that make them outstanding places to live.

Why Cape Town Stands Out

Cape Town's appeal goes far beyond its scenic beauty. Known for its Blue Flag beaches and famous vineyards, the city continues to innovate with attractions like the wine safari in Durbanville Wine Valley and the Time Out Market at the V&A Waterfront. About 95% of Cape Town residents appreciate its incredible food scene, and 97% say the city brings them happiness.

Bangkok and New York City Shine Bright

Bangkok ranks high for its affordable and delicious food, as well as its cultural gems like the Bangkok Art Biennale. The city's food scene is loved by 86% of locals. New York City, meanwhile, is celebrated for its vibrant culture and its role as a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. A remarkable 92% of New Yorkers are satisfied with the city's rich art and culture.

Melbourne and London: Perfect Mix of Culture and Comfort

Melbourne is investing heavily in green spaces and cultural experiences, as seen with its display of Yayoi Kusama's art at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). London, with its diverse population, continues to captivate through new rail lines and cultural hubs.

Other Cities Making the Top Ten

New Orleans stands out for its live music scene and resilience, marked by hosting the upcoming Super Bowl LIX and the opening of Nobu at Caesars Hotel. Mexico City charms with new attractions like the HandShake bar, enhancing its artistic and culinary appeal. Porto, Shanghai, and Copenhagen complete the top ten, each offering unique lifestyles, from Porto's stunning views to Copenhagen's focus on sustainability.
