Mumbai has introduced its first elevated nature trail at Malabar Hill, inspired by Singapore's famous 'Tree Top Walk.' This beautiful forest walkway offers visitors a peaceful escape in the middle of the busy city. It connects Kamala Nehru Park to Doongerwadi woods, giving nature lovers a unique way to experience the city's green spaces. Managed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the project aims to bring people closer to nature while maintaining the beauty of the environment.
A Walk Among the Trees
The 485-meter-long and 2.4-meter-wide trail is surrounded by lush greenery. It features more than 100 species of plants, including Gulmohar, Almond, Jamun, and Banyan trees. These trees attract many birds like kingfishers, bulbuls, and parakeets. Visitors may also spot small reptiles, including lizards and pythons, living in their natural habitat.
One of the biggest attractions of the walkway is the Sea Viewing Deck. From here, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Mumbai's coastline and Girgaon Chowpatty. The experience of walking above the forest while looking at the Arabian Sea makes this trail truly special.
Eco-Friendly Design
The walkway is built using mostly wood, with minimal use of concrete. This design helps maintain the natural water flow of the hill and ensures that the movement of wildlife is not disturbed. Special care has been taken to blend the structure with the surroundings, making it an environmentally friendly addition to the city.
Other exciting features include a birdwatching area and a glass-bottom viewing deck. The glass deck gives visitors a thrilling view of the forest below, making them feel as if they are walking in the air.
Entry Fees and Timings
The elevated walkway is open daily from 5 AM to 9 PM. Visitors can book their tickets online for easy access.

- Entry Fee for Foreign Nationals: ₹100
The entry and exit points are located at Siri Road, behind Kamala Nehru Park, making the trail easily accessible to the public.
Budget and Construction Challenges
The project was planned with a budget of ₹22 crore, but due to taxes like GST, the final cost increased to ₹25 crore. Since Malabar Hill is a silent zone, construction work was allowed only during limited hours. Despite these challenges, 90% of the civil work is complete. The remaining work, including electrification, painting, restrooms, and ticket counters, is in progress.
