In a big update for Mumbai residents, the Elphinstone Road Over Bridge will be closed to vehicles starting Friday. This closure is part of a major plan to demolish and rebuild the bridge, which has served as an important connection between the eastern and western parts of Mumbai for over 100 years. The decision has been taken to improve the bridge's safety and help it handle modern traffic needs.

New Traffic Diversions for Commuters
To help people during this time, the Mumbai Traffic Police have announced new traffic diversion routes. People travelling from Dadar East to Dadar West and those going to Dadar Market are advised to use the Tilak Bridge. This will act as a faster and better option during the bridge closure.
Similarly, for those travelling from Parel East towards Prabhadevi and Lower Parel, the Curry Road Bridge will be open, but only from 7 AM to 3 PM. These diversions have been planned to reduce traffic jams and help vehicles move more smoothly across the city.
More Alternate Routes for City Travelers
The traffic police have also shared plans for people travelling from Parel and Byculla East towards Prabhadevi, Worli, the Coastal Road, and the Sea Link. For them, the Chinchpokli Bridge will be the best alternate route.
For vehicles travelling from Dadar West to Dadar East, the Tilak Bridge will once again be the preferred choice. These routes have been selected to provide easy movement and to prevent long traffic delays.
Evening Time Adjustments for Curry Road Bridge
To support people travelling later in the day, the Curry Road Bridge will allow traffic from Prabhadevi and Lower Parel West towards Parel, Tata Hospital, and KEM Hospital only between 3 PM and 11 PM. This timing has been planned to spread out traffic and reduce pressure on busy routes.
Also, for vehicles coming from the Coastal Road and Sea Link towards Prabhadevi, Worli, Parel, and Byculla East, the Chinchpokli Bridge is recommended during this time of change.
Public Suggestions Helped Plan the Diversion
The authorities had earlier asked for suggestions from the public to plan these changes in a better way. This shows that the Mumbai Traffic Police wanted to make this big change easier for daily travellers. The rebuilding of Elphinstone Road Over Bridge is also an important part of the larger Sewri-Worli Elevated Connector project, which will further improve city transport.
A Step Towards Better City Travel
Although the closure will cause temporary problems, the authorities are working hard to finish the construction quickly. The planning, the public support, and the alternate routes show that the city is ready to deal with this major change. Once completed, the new Elphinstone Road Over Bridge will offer safer and better travel for everyone in Mumbai.
