Mumbai-Pune Expressway Traffic Block: Temporary Diversion for Bridge Construction

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced a temporary traffic block on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. From January 22 to 24, the Pune-bound carriageway will be closed daily between noon and 3 pm to install girders for a new bridge. During this time, traffic heading from Mumbai to Pune will be diverted via the Old Mumbai-Pune National Highway between Varsoli Toll Naka and Wadgaon. This decision ensures safety and efficiency while minimizing inconvenience to commuters.

Key Details of the Traffic Block

The new bridge is being constructed between Dongargaon and Kusgaon at kilometre 58/500 on the Pune-bound lane. Commuters traveling from Mumbai to Pune will regain access to the expressway after 3 pm each day, restoring normal traffic flow. Vehicles traveling from Pune to Mumbai will not be affected during this period.

Travelers are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and use the diversion route during the specified times. For assistance, motorists can contact the Mumbai-Pune Expressway Control Room.

Enhancing the Mumbai-Pune Expressway

This project is part of a larger effort to improve the infrastructure and connectivity of the expressway. Additionally, the MSRDC is nearing the completion of a new link road on the expressway, which will significantly reduce travel time to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.

According to Rakesh Sonawane, MSRDC's executive engineer, 90% of the link road work is complete, and the project is expected to finish by June. Once operational, the link road will cut travel time between Pune and Mumbai by 30 minutes and shorten the journey to the airport by up to two hours. This improvement is crucial as the Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to open in April.

Complex Yet Vital Construction

The link road project includes building two tunnels and two valley bridges, requiring precision and care. Despite the challenges, the MSRDC is progressing swiftly to meet deadlines while ensuring safety.

A Smoother Journey Ahead

The temporary block on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway is a short-term measure with long-term benefits. With the installation of the new bridge and the completion of the link road to Navi Mumbai International Airport, travelers can look forward to a faster, safer, and more convenient journey. The MSRDC's efforts highlight its commitment to enhancing connectivity and addressing the needs of one of India's busiest travel routes.
