The 10-day Ganeshotsav in Mumbai will end with the grand immersion of Lord Ganesha idols on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. To handle the huge crowds and processions, the Mumbai Police have announced a detailed traffic plan. Many roads will be closed, and diversions will be in place to ensure the smooth movement of both vehicles and people during the Visarjan ceremonies.

Coastal Road Open 24 Hours
To make travel easier between North and South Mumbai, the Coastal Road will remain open for 24 hours until September 18. However, police are encouraging the public to use local trains and BEST buses to avoid traffic jams on the roads.
Road Closures in South Mumbai
Several roads in South Mumbai will be closed during the processions. These include:
- Colaba
- Nathalal Parekh Marg
- Captain Prakash Pethe Marg
- Rambhau Salgaonkar Marg
Additionally, streets near CSMT and Kalbadevi, such as Mahapalika Marg, JSS Road, Vitthalbhai Patel Road, and Baba Saheb Jaykar Road, will also be shut down. People should expect heavy traffic in busy areas like Girgaon Chowpatty, Cuffe Parade, Metro Junction (CSMT), and Bhendi Bazaar. Residents are advised to plan their travel and avoid these areas if possible.
Suburban Traffic Restrictions
In Dadar, key areas like Hind Mata Junction, Bharat Mata Junction, Parel TT Junction, and Ranjit Bidhakar Chowk will be closed for the processions. For the famous Lalbaugcha Raja immersion, Dr. Annie Besant Road and NM Joshi Marg near Worli Naka will also be shut.
Processions heading to Shivaji Park Chowpatty will lead to the closure of Swatantraveer Savarkar Marg near Siddhivinayak Temple. In Kandivali, Damu Anna Date Marg will be closed for immersions at Dahanukar Wadi Pool, and LT Road in Borivali will be closed from Don Bosco Junction to Borivali Jetty Road.
Railway Overbridge Restrictions
Thirteen Railway Overbridges (ROBs), including those at Ghatkopar, Currey Road, Byculla, Marine Lines, and Dadar Tilak, will restrict pedestrian crossings to 100 people at a time for safety reasons. Dancing and the use of loudspeakers are strictly prohibited on these bridges to prevent accidents.
Public Appeal
Mumbai Police are asking all citizens to follow these traffic guidelines to ensure that the Ganesh Visarjan processions take place smoothly. By adhering to these rules, residents can help reduce traffic congestion and keep everyone safe during this important cultural event.
