The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority and Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited have collaboratively introduced a new feature, allowing commuters to book metro tickets directly through the Uber app. This service is available for Metro Line 2A, which

runs from Dahisar East to Andheri West, and Line 7, which runs from Dahisar East to Andheri East. It uses the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) system, making ticket booking simple and convenient, according to an announcement made by Devendra Fadnavis.
QR-Code-Based Ticket System & 50% Discount in Mumbai Metro
Passengers can now buy QR-code-based tickets on Uber and get an instant 50% discount, up to Rs 10. As these two metro lines already carry more than 3.5 lakh passengers daily, this system will make travel more convenient for commuters. Ticket booking through ONDC is already available on several platforms, like Ixigo, RedBus, and EaseMyTrip, among others. As Uber is added to the list, users now have another easy and familiar option.
Mumbai's Digital Travel Option
Mumbai already offers many digital travel options for its daily commuters. These include the Mumbai One App, which combines metro, local trains, buses, and monorail services, including WhatsApp-based ticket booking. Moreover, about 72% of tickets for Lines 2A and 7 are booked digitally.
Additional Mumbai Metro Lines to Introduce Digital Ticketing
Authorities are also working to improve last-mile connectivity by increasing Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus services, building foot overbridges, and adding parking near metro stations. New metro lines like 2B and 9 are expected to open soon, and similar digital ticketing features will likely be added. These steps will benefit commuters in numerous ways.
How will it Help Commuters?
Eknath Shinde said this move will help connect metro stations to final destinations and encourage more people to use public transport. Officials believe such digital integration will make travel easier, improve planning, and support a more connected and sustainable transport system in Mumbai.
